Monroe: Culvers supporting blood drives

MONROE - The American Red Cross is asking eligible blood donors to give a little of themselves this summer and remember to make time to donate blood. Culvers of Monroe is offering its Pint for a Pint program, presenting donors with a coupon for a "Pint of Custard for a Pint of Blood."

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with a signed consent and must weigh at least 110 pounds. It only takes about an hour and can make a real difference in someone's life.

Recently, the deferral for some cancers has changed from a 5 year deferral to a one year deferral. To find out if you can now give blood, call American Red Cross Donor Health at (800) 626-4017, ext. 315.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities include:

• 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, Monroe community blood drive at Monroe United Methodist Church, 2227 4th St.;

• 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 25, Monroe community blood drive at Monroe United Methodist Church, 2227 4th St.;

• 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, Monroe Clinic blood drive at the Monroe Clinic.
