EVANSVILLE - An Ecumenical Service of Remembrance will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 312 S. Third St.

Led by Monroe Clinic Chaplain Linda O'Leary, the service is an annual event organized by women from different churches in Evansville. It previously was held at St. Paul Catholic Church, whose members continue to help in planning and leading the 45-minute service, which includes prayer, reflection, readings and music.

This year's theme is "Angels above Us, Angels among Us."

Participants may bring framed pictures of their loved ones to be placed at the altar during the service and list the names of those they wish to honor. The names will be read aloud during a candlelit remembrance ceremony. Each family attending will be given a handcrafted ornament; a sprig of rosemary, the herb of remembrance; and angel's trumpet seeds from a local memory garden.

The service will be followed by light refreshments and a time for fellowship. Materials will be available to help those coping with grief during the holidays.
