MONROE - The Monroe City Band will kick off its 64th season with a show at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 10 at the Band Shell in Twining Park.

The free event is open to the public. The 55-member volunteer group began rehearsing in mid-April for a series of five concerts, which will all be held at the Swiss chalet-style band shell.

The June 10 program will include a march by John Phillip Sousa titled "Riders For The Flag"; LeRoy Anderson's "Pie In The Face Polka" featuring Lara Salyer-Smith and Ashley Wegmueller as co-soloists; a medley of cowboy songs called "The Good Old West"; and the music from the motion picture "Remember The Titans."

The concerts are scheduled in cooperation with the "Concerts On The Square," alternating to avoid overlapping events. Other Monroe City Band concerts are scheduled for Monday, June 24; Thursday, July 4; Monday, July 15; and Monday, July 29.

Dave Mosher will host the June 10 concert. The Monroe City Band is directed by Randy Schneeberger.
