MONROE - Both Spanish and English speaking famiilies are welcome to attend Celebrando!, the Monroe Public Library's Spanish language story program at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at the library. This program will feature the music of famed children's storyteller and singer, Francisco Gabliondo Soler.
Gabliondo is known to generations of Mexican children as Cri Cri, the singing cricket, a light-hearted character he created as a child and whom many consider to be a reflection of Gabliondo's creative personality.
In Cri Cri's honor "The Very Quiet Cricket" by Eric Carle will be read in both Spanish and English by Luis Aragon and Kristen Ault, Youth Services Librarian. The audience will also have the opportunity to act out the story of "Martina, the Beautiful Cockroach," a folktale from the Caribbean.
The library has recently added Gabliondo's recordings to the Children's Music collection and the audience will be invited to join in and sing along with their favorite learning and story songs and view a portion of the video of Soler's stories, "Las Numero 1."
Children will have an opportunity to make a singing cricket craft and create their own cricket hats. The evening will end with refreshments and a time for the audience to share their own stories.
There is no registration required for this free family program. The Monroe Public Library is located at 925 16th Avenue in Monroe. More information is available by calling (608) 328-7010.
