MONROE - "Music From Royal Weddings" is the theme for an organ mini-recital at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church of Monroe. It will be repeated at 5:15 p.m. at St. Victor Catholic Church (St. Clare of Assisi Parish), Monroe.
The free, half-hour program is part of a quarterly organ recital series called "Midday Masterworks," now in its 15th year.
Monroe organist Deborah Krauss Smith will play selections that were performed at past royal weddings, starting with the wedding of Princess Royal Victoria and Prince Frederick of Prussia in 1858, up through the 2011 marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Composers represented include J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Vaughan Williams, Brahms, Handel and Clarke.
Midday Masterworks will continue in 2017 with themed organ mini-recitals on the fourth Wednesday of the months of January, April, July and October. More information is available at http://coldspringsroad.com/middaymasterworks.html.
