OSHKOSH - Mary Kelly, a senior at Monroe High School, was elected to the position of mayor during the 71st session of American Legion Auxiliary Badger Girls State, held June 15 through 20 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Kelly, who was sponsored by the Monroe Unit 84 American Legion Auxiliary, was the mayor in the city of Maple. There are 14 cities named after Wisconsin trees.
She was one of 729 delegates to complete the session of mock government training at the city, county and state levels.
