DARLINGTON - The Lafayette County Master Gardener Association has chartered a bus to go to the Chicago Flower and Garden Show on March 11. Imagine being able to get out of the cold and smell growing flowers, walk through fresh green grass, wander over bridges and through gazebos, and listen to waterfalls and streams, all in the indoor warmth of Festival Hall at Chicago's famed Navy Pier.
Visit the 25 large display gardens, designed by professional landscapers, to find practical and trendy ideas to help jump-start your garden plans for 2009. See fresh ideas for combining different plant colors and textures, growing plants and trees that fit in smaller gardens, and creating patios and water features in your yard.
Take time to sit in on the free educational seminars that are designed to inspire. The "Garden Gourmet" cooking classes feature celebrity chefs preparing dishes that include fresh garden produce. The "Teaching Garden" features hands-on gardening tips and information about perennials, container gardening, and much more. The "Tablescapes" display features floral-inspired table settings for your home.
The bus will be leaving Darlington from the Festival Grounds parking lot at 7 a.m. on March 11 and will drop everyone off right at the door of the flower show. The bus will leave Chicago at 3 p.m. for the return trip, with a stop for a quick supper on the way home. Everyone is invited, and feel free to bring a friend.
The cost of the trip, including bus fare and admission to the flower show, but not including supper, is $60. Reservations and payment must be sent to Carol Kranz, LCMGA Treasurer, P.O. Box 209, Darlington, WI 53530 no later than February 12. For more information, call Ellen Phillips at (608) 439-5459.
