LENA - The Jacobs family is inviting the community to join them in celebrating the fifth anniversary of Mady's Pantry, which will take place Nov. 5 and 6 at Sullivans in Lena.
The supply drive is a cause with which the Jacobs are familiar, as their daughter, Madyson Jacobs, was born with Walker-Warburg syndrome. She required ongoing treatment at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, where they would spend three and four days at a time. There, the Jacobs found a place for their family to stay during the child's frequent visits to the hospital.
When Mady Jacobs died in 2012 at the age of 5, her family sought to honor her memory while celebrating the support and generosity of the community that rallied around them throughout her life. The Jacobs family organized the first Mady's Pantry supply drive five years ago to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison. Not sure what to expect that first year, they filled several vehicles with about $12,000 worth of supplies and donations to provide families with accommodations in Madison during a child's hospital stay.
After the first year, the Jacobs had to get a trailer. Each year, Mady's pantry fills a van, a truck and a trailer with supplies and donations. The Jacobs hope to mark the event's fifth anniversary by reaching $15,000 worth of donations. This year, they would like to fill one more vehicle.
Mady's Pantry supply drive is the largest single donation of wish list items of the year for Ronald McDonald House. Since the inaugural event, Mady's Pantry has raised about $50,000 in supplies and donations. This drive allows RMHC-Madison to keep its pantry stocked and provides lunches through the Lunches with Love program.
The event will include:
A supply drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 6. Shoppers may drop off wish list supplies, select from specially-marked groceries throughout the store or purchase pre-filled grocery bags valued at $10.
A cookout from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6.
Mady's Pantry popular trademark pink crown cookies will be for sale.
Monetary donations of all sizes will be accepted during the drive. Donations may be deposited into Mady's Pantry account at Citizen's State Bank at any time.
Pop tabs can be donated for RMHC during the event and all year long at Sullivans. Last year, 120 pounds of pop tabs were collected. There are about 1,400 tabs per pound.
The RMHC wish list and other details are available on the "Mady's Pantry" Facebook page.
