MONROE - Monroe Arts Center will present a night of rockabilly, country, gospel and 1950s rock 'n' roll with the show "One Night in Memphis" at 7:30 p.m. May 19 at Monroe High School Performing Arts Center, 1600 26th St.

This high-energy concert recreates Dec. 4, 1956, the night when four of the biggest names in early rock 'n' roll, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash, gathered together for an impromptu jam session at Sun Studios in Memphis.

"One Night in Memphis" was created in 2012 by John Mueller, who plays Perkins. Mueller is known for his long-running show "Winter Dance Party," a tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. "One Night in Memphis" features cast members from Broadway and the touring company with the sound, look and feel of the original legends. Over 90 minutes of legendary hit songs will be performed live with an authentic rockabilly band.

The show starts with Perkins performing hits like "Honey Don't," "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" and "Blue Suede Shoes," while telling anecdotes about life as a sharecropper's son and his musical influences. Midway through his set, Perkins invites session musician Lewis to join him on stage, who then performs songs such as "Whole Lotta Shaking Goin' On" and "Great Balls of Fire." Cash is welcomed to the stage next and performs his hits "Folsom Prison Blues," "Ring of Fire" and "I Walk the Line." Presley then transports the audience back to 1956-59 with hits like "Shake, Rattle and Roll," "All Shook Up," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Don't be Cruel" and "Hound Dog."

Tickets may be purchased at the Monroe Arts Center box office at 1315 11th St., by calling 325-5700, or online at monroeartscenter.com.
