2023 Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction a booming success

WEST ALLIS — The Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation and Wisconsin State Fair Officials welcomed Governor Tony Evers and Wisconsin Secretary of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Randy Romanski, to the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction on Aug. 9. 

At the conclusion of another high energy and successful event, the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction, at the 2023 Wisconsin State Fair, raised a total of $403,150.

“Funds raised at the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction support the Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation’s mission to educate and support the Wisconsin State Fair youth livestock exhibitors,” said Bob Johnson, President of the Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation. “These youth are the future of the Wisconsin livestock industry, and we were overwhelmed with the generosity of our auction supporters.” 

In 2023, the GBRLA provided $32,000 in scholarship awards as well as over $15,000 to fund Wisconsin State Fair Junior Exhibitor Showmanship, Knowledge Master Showman, and Reserve Champion Awards.

Bucky Badger and the sounds of the UW-Madison Marching Band brought the energy to the Case IH Coliseum. The bidding commenced as auctioneer Gary Finley started the night by selling the Grand Champion Steer, exhibited by Tori Crisp and sold to Kenosha Beef for $40,000.

Brian Crave named 2023 Grand Master Cheesemaker; auction results

WEST ALLIS — Dairy manufacturers, supporters and enthusiasts gathered at the Saz’s Hospitality Pavilion at Wisconsin State Fair Park on Thursday evening, August 10 for the Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction and the announcement of the 2023 Wisconsin State Fair Grand Master Cheesemaker. Brian Crave won the coveted title with his winning entry of Chocolate Mascarpone. The entry scored 99.380 in the flavored soft cheese class. 

In addition to announcing the Grand Master Cheesemaker, the grand champion dairy products were also announced at the event.

●  Grand Champion Butter: Royal Guernsey Creamery salted butter, made by Royal Guernsey Creamery of Columbus.

●  Grand Champion Sour Cream: Odyssey Sour Cream, made by Klondike Cheese Co of Monroe.

●  Grand Champion Yogurt: Yodelay Pineapple Swiss Yogurt, made by Yodelay Yogurt of Madison.

●  Grand Champion Milk: 2% Fluid White Milk made by Lamers Dairy of Appleton.

●  Grand Champion Custard: Banana Cream made by The Creamy Pig of Grafton. 

Each blue ribbon entry from the dairy products contest sold during the auction, which raised $50,155 for student scholarships and dairy promotion at the state fair. 

Leading off the auction was two pounds of Crave Brothers Chocolate Mascarpone, which sold for $1,600 to Rock River Laboratory.
