DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society (LCHGS) received a donation from the Wiegel Strong Foundation in support of the “Caboose for the Depot” project.  

LCHGS recently purchased a 1930’s Caboose, and is currently preparing to have in installed on the tracks beside the Darlington Depot. The Caboose will be repaired, and restored so it can be used by the community, representing the Milwaukee Road Railroad line. 

This has been a dream for years accomplished with the help of many volunteers, grant funding, and generous donations like this one from Wiegel Strong in the amount of $2,500. 

Anyone interested in railroad history is welcome to get involved in the project. LCHGS can use ideas, volunteer labor, and donations to create a wonderful asset to the community and educational displays.
