MILWAUKEE - A luncheon and awards program to honor the achievements of south-central and southwest Wisconsin students, teachers and principals will be held at noon Saturday at Middleton High School, 2100 Bristol St., Middleton. The Middleton event is one of five regional award programs sponsored by the Herb Kohl Foundation. The award program will start at about 1 p.m.
The luncheon will recognize 27 teacher Fellowship recipients, 17 Excellence Scholarship recipients, 25 Initiative Scholarship recipients and four Leadership Award recipients.
This year's area recipients are: Declan Crego, New Glarus, Belmont Community School District; Elizabeth Disch, New Glarus, Pecatonica Elementary School in Hollandale; Nicole Bushee, New Glarus, New Glarus High School; Jeremiah Bailey, Shullsburg, Shullsburg High School; and Emilee Solberg, Brooklyn, Belleville High School.
Co-sponsoring organizations are the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools, Wisconsin Cooperative Educational Service Agencies, Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and Wisconsin Parents Association.
The foundation will issue the $10,000 Excellence and Initiative scholarship grants to the post-secondary institution that each student will attend. Each teacher and principal will receive a $6,000 Fellowship or Leadership award, and an additional $6,000 grant will be awarded to the educator's school for use in innovative educational projects.
