MONROE - The Green County Homemakers (HCE) are filling a suitcase this coming Saturday, Feb. 19, to be sent to the Laguta School and Orphanage in Gulu district of Uganda.

The suitcase will be filled with dresses made from old or used pillowcases that many of the members have dug out of their chests or sewing closets.

The dresses are to be sewn at St. John's Church in Monroe by HCE members as well as some participants consisting of 4-H leaders and members and the Courthouse Quitters. The HCE ladies will also be teaching seam finishing and some leaders will teach how to make a pillowcase. These pillowcases will be filled with pillows to donate to the Homeless Coalition, Foster Care, and Green Haven.

The project will begin at 9 a.m. and last throughout the day. Anyone interested in helping may come in at anytime and stay as long as you want. Participants are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine or ribbon or lace scraps or buttons.

A free lunch will be provided free by the HCE and prepared by the Ladies of the VFW.

People will be needed to press seams, work the registration table, and help 4-H members to run the sewing machines and more. For more information, call Lynn Lokken at 328-7538 (Family Committee HCE) or Jan Kash, 325-1077, Green County HCE president.
