FREEPORT — Highland Community College’s Theatre Arts program presents “Eurydice.” Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct 4, Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center, 2998 W. Pearl City, Road, Freeport.
“Eurydice” is Sarah Ruhl’s reimagining of the classic Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. The play follows Eurydice’s point of view, through her wedding day to her death and journey to the Underworld, where she is met with interesting characters and reunited with her dead father, all while struggling to remember her husband.
“Eurydice” is a powerful retelling of a well-known story and a wonderfully abstract insight into love, loss, and the never-ending rollercoaster of human emotions. This show focuses on the power of memories and the connection to the inner child that lives inside us all. I think all audience members can relate to the message of finding your voice told in a story that is traditionally through Orpheus’ perspective.
“It has been a great opportunity to guest-direct at Highland Community College and to work with such an amazing team to make the world of Eurydice come to life,” said Director, Karley Morton.
