NEW GLARUS - Bike 4 Habitat is Green County Habitat for Humanity's single largest fundraiser of the year. Last year's event attracted cyclists from all around the Midwest, and raised more than $10,000. To make this year's event an even bigger success the organization needs riders and sponsors.

Carl Marquart, a New Glarus resident and member of the Swiss Church has agreed to be the Grand Marshall for the fifth annual Bike 4 Habitat event Saturday, May 15, in New Glarus. Marquart has been an enthusiastic supporter of our Bike 4 Habitat event for the past four years, and helped lay out the routes for this year's ride. Carl has ridden in each of the past four events and has been joined by a hearty team of teen riders. Some of these have been with him all four years. Carl and his team are busy recruiting other Swiss Church members to join them for this year's ride.

Consider joining Habitat individually, or by putting together a team for a great bike ride through the rolling hills of Green County. There will be a 15, 30, and 50 mile route to meet the ability of every rider. The 15 mile route stays mostly on the "flat" bike trails and goes through the tunnel to offer a great day of fun for the whole family. Bigger challenges are the 30 or 50 mile routes. The roads will be well marked and maps are provided. Rest areas with snacks will be provided throughout the route as well as support in case of equipment failures or worn out riders.

The registration and all routes begin and end this year in New Glarus at the Remax parking lot on the corner of 5th Avenue. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. with riders starting off around 8 a.m. The registration fee is $40 on the day of the event, ($35 in advance) and includes a free T-shirt, snacks prior to the ride, snacks along the routes and a meal at the end of the ride. Participants will also get a coupon book with discounts from local merchants compliments of the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce. Children, 16 and under can ride along for free with a paid adult. Each rider is encouraged to get pledges, but it is not required. Any rider collecting pledges in excess of $250 will also earn a hooded sweatshirt.

Additional information including route maps and a printable registration form can be found at www.greencountyhabitat.org.

The Green County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has once again stepped up with a generous sponsorship of this event.
