Grants awarded to nonprofit groups

MONROE - Various grants were awarded to 24 non-profit organizations serving the needs of Monroe area residents.

The grants were awarded from Monroe Fund, Reasa Charitable Fund, Dr. Fred W. and Alice J. Kundert Charitable Fund, Jane Lysaght Memorial Fund, Reasa Historic Preservation Fund, Robert B. Olson Investment Fund for Monroe High School and The Thomas F. Campion Charitable Fund.

The 2012 Grants Reception was held at the Green County Courthouse.

Grants were presented to the following organizations:

The Clifford and Dorothy Reasa Charitable Fund was awarded to the City of Monroe's swimming pool for a moving starting platform; Noah's Ark Preschool and Childcare for transition room and equipment; Rainbow Childcare, Inc. for certified safety cribs; and St. Victor Elementary School for two smart response kits.

The Clifford and Dorothy Reasa Fund for Historic Preservation was awarded to Green County Historical Society for the restoration of the old Bethel school house; Monroe Arts Center for the restoration of entryway tiles; National Historic Cheesemaking Center for the painting of the main building; and Turner Hall of Monroe for the repair/replacement of windows.

The Dr. Fred W. and Alice J. Kundert Charitable Fund was awarded to Ding-A-Dong Preschool for a technology package.

The Jane Lysaght Memorial Fund was awarded to the Green County YMCA for a chair lift for the pool.

The Monroe Fund was awarded to Behring Senior Center for tables and chairs; Everyone Needs a Home for the pet food pantry; Family Promise of Green County for general support; Fowler Memorial Free Dental Clinic for general support; Friends of the Badger Trail for Monroe Trailhead Construction Project; Green County Health Department for healthy kids/healthy county coalition; Literacy Council of Green County for Rosetta Stone Language Software; Main Street Monroe, Inc. for Pirates on the Square; Monroe Arts Center for performances in the school/Junie B. Jones; Monroe Clinic/Parish Nurse Program for projector and supplies; Monroe Theater Guild for youth summer arts camp; and SWCAP for Green County Food Pantry for general support.

The Thomas F Campion Charitable Fund was awarded to Green County Human Services for the Hand-in-Hand Revitalization Program to purchase a portable stereo, games, art, baking and cooking supplies; City of Monroe for the moving starting platform for the swimming pool; Special Olympics of Green County for the basketball program; and the City of Monroe for Park and Rec for the special needs playground.

The Robert B. Olson for Monroe High School Fund was awarded to Family Promise for general support.

The Monroe Fund, Reasa Charitable Fund, Reasa Historic Preservation Fund, Dr. Fred W. and Alice J. Kundert Charitable Fund, Robert B. Olson for Monroe High School Fund, Thomas F. Campion Charitable Fund and the Jane Lysaght Memorial Fund are components of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, a non-profit public foundation serving nine southern Wisconsin counties. The Monroe Fund and the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin assist individuals with their charitable contributions in order to create enduring endowments for their communities.

The Monroe Fund was formed in 1996 and since then more than $400,000 have been awarded.
