MONROE - The Green County Genealogical Society will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. May 5 in the second-floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave.
Following the meeting, member Sandy Wille will speak on "My 2017 Trip to Norway." A sandwich buffet lunch will be served at about noon.
The afternoon program will be "The Coffin Ships: Death on the Ocean Crossing and One Family's Story" presented by Glenn Borreson, retired Lutheran pastor and presenter of Norwegian-American heritage programs. The program is about the Norwegian immigrant experience crossing the Atlantic on a "coffin ship" and specifically about one of Borreson's ancestor families and their struggle to begin a new life in America. A Norwegian display will be provided by the Monroe Ostestaden Lodge of the Sons of Norway.
Pre-registration and payment for lunch is required by April 28. A registration form with more information is available at https://www.greencogenealogywi.org/upcoming-events.html. This event is open to the public. Call Sharon Mitchell at 815-868-2416 or Donna Kjendlie at 921-1537 for more information. Leave a message if there is no answer.
