MONROE — Green County residents were ranked 10 out of 72 counties in the state for healthiest county, according to the annual “County Health Rankings,” released this month by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
The “County Health Rankings” rate the overall health of nearly every county in all 50 states, using standard measurements to estimate residents’ health and life span. According to the 2019 rankings, Wisconsin’s top five healthiest counties are: Ozaukee, Washington, St. Croix, Waukesha and Calumet.
While Green County’s rank of 10 remains unchanged from 2018, the county has showed improvement over the past few years. Green County’s rank was 18 in 2017 and 33 in 2016.
The rankings, and other information in the report, help agencies in Green County work together and create healthier opportunities for all. The Green County Healthy Community Coalition is one group working to improve health in Green County. The coalition is co-chaired by representatives from the Green County Public Health and Monroe Clinic. Its membership is comprised by representatives of over 50 organizations which include community groups, education, government and business.
The group has been addressing health and social needs of Green County for over 20 years. Every other year, these needs are compiled into a Community Health Needs Assessment and Improvement Plan.
