MONROE - Cory Thomas Ganshert is the recipient of the fourth annual William C. and Margaret L. Parmer Scholarship.
The Parmer Scholarship was created by Margaret Parmer, a Monroe resident who saw a need to help students with the high cost of their medical school education. The recipient must be from Monroe and accepted or enrolled in medical school. Margaret's husband, William, died in 2005, and this was something they often had talked about doing.
Ganshert is a 2005 graduate of Monroe High School and is enrolled at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, specializing in geriatrics. Upon completion of medical school, Ganshert plans on being a geriatrician, seeing patients, conducting research and helping educate future physicians.
The William C. and Margaret L. Parmer Scholarship Fund is a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. For more information, contact Linda Gebhardt, donor service representative, at 608-328-4060 or linda@cfsw.org.
