‘Friends’ of local trails to spring into action for Earth Day
Community Brief

NEW GLARUS — The Friends of the Badger and Sugar River State Trails invite the public to help maintain local trails by joining them for Earth Day Trail Cleanup on Saturday, April 20, starting at 9 a.m.

The organization could use help to pick up trash, move branches and clear brush from the trails. Volunteers can choose a portion of the trail near them — or one that they’ve never walked before — and join one of the board members for a morning clean-up walk. The organization will supply garbage bags — and send a Friends decal as a thank-you to any volunteer that spends at least an hour doing trail maintenance as part of the Earth Day Trail Cleanup event.

Meeting sites for Earth Day Trail Cleanup include:

●  Fitchburg: Trailhead at Purcell Road and Sayles Trail

●  Belleville: Library Park

●  New Glarus: Train Depot, Sugar River Trailhead

●  Monticello: Badger Trail Parking Lot

●  Albany: Trail Parking Lot

The group appreciates any help. If April 20 does not work for an interested volunteer, they can still help. It is suggested to contact group organizers to let them know what available days are available for the interested person to volunteer.
