FREEPORT - Visit the Freeport Arts Center Jan. 12 through March 1 for a special exhibition, "Patterns and Palette," that battles cabin fever through warm and inviting quilts by "The Passionate Quilters" coupled with the vibrant, cheerful paintings by one of Rockford's leading artists, Ingrid Dohm.
Quilts by a Freeport area African American quilting group, "The Passionate Quilters," celebrate the history and traditions of quilting. Stemming from a need to provide basic warmth and protection, African American quilting has since developed into a means of expression and a source of inspiration. Each member of the group reveals their own unique approach to design, color and texture in their quilt motifs. Some opt for traditional, recognizable patterns such as the "Log Cabin," while others include more contemporary designs and techniques.
Enjoy a bit of spring indoors through the impressionistic floral and landscape paintings by Rockford artist, Ingrid Dohm. Well known for her signature florals, her work includes a diverse array of subjects from portraits to street scenes and landscapes. All her works demonstrate an attention to color combined with a controlled technique that can be described as truly beautiful.
The Freeport Arts Center is located at 121 North Harlem Avenue, and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Tours may be scheduled by calling (815) 235-9755 or you may email: artscenter@aeroinc.net.
