DARLINGTON - The Memorial Healthcare Foundation Grants and Career Development Committee has selected five recipients for health care scholarships in 2016. The recipients exemplified educational and community requirements.
The following nursing students each received $1,000 awards on July 19.
Shannon McDaniel, Darlington, is currently studying nursing at Marquette University in Milwaukee. She is working at Lafayette Manor as a certified nursing assistant. After graduation, she hopes to work in pediatrics or a neonatal intensive care unit. She is a 2014 graduate of Darlington High School and is the daughter of Bill and Sharon McDaniel of Darlington.
Taylor Norton, Darlington, is currently studying nursing and psychology at Clarke University in Dubuque. She is employed at Lafayette Manor as a CNA and medication technician and also works for Wisconsin Early Autism Project as a behavior treatment technician. She is a 2012 graduate of Pecatonica High School and is the daughter of Steve Norton of Hollandale and Amy Crist of Darlington.
Haleigh Sonsalla, Darlington, is currently studying nursing at Clarke University in Dubuque. Sonsalla works at Lafayette Manor as a medical technician. She is a 2013 graduate of Darlington High School and is the daughter of Patrick Sonsalla of Darlington.
Storm Wiegel, Darlington, is currently a nursing student at Edgewood College in Madison. He plans to graduate in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. He plans to further his education with a goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. He is a 2014 graduate of Darlington High School and is the son of Tim and Dawn Wiegel of Darlington.
Andrea McGowan, Darlington, is currently studying for her Bachelor of Science in nursing with a minor in psychology at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. In addition to the MHF scholarship, McGowan also received the Cathy Lee Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $500. She works at Lafayette Manor, Mercy Medical Center as a behavior health technician, Rural Medical Ambulance Services as a volunteer NREMT, In Home Health-Care and Bath and Body Works. McGowan is a 2014 graduate of Darlington High School and is the daughter of Greg and Leann McGowan of Darlington.

The Cathy Lee Nursing Scholarship Committee's mission is to promote excellent work ethic and leadership skills in memory of Cathy Lee, a former nursing employee at Memorial Hospital.
