ALBANY - The Lake Winnetka/Sugar River Improvement Association Inc. held the Carp-O-Rama carp fishing contest on Labor Day weekend.
This year's winners of the $50 first prize for the most carp caught were Tad and Tate Harnack, who brought in 93. They also won the $50 second prize for the largest carp, weighing in at 9.7 pounds.
The third-prize winners were Zack Ringhand and Karina Mathiasen, who brought in 50 carp. They won a pair of binoculars for their efforts. Their largest carp weighed in at 9.01 pounds.
The fourth prize - a decorative thermometer - went to Wilbur Boss, John Hawkins and Darrel Walters for their 33 carp. Their biggest carp weighed 9.41 pounds.
The total carp brought in from the contest was 176, and with the additional carp reported to be caught by contestants and others apart from the contest, organizers estimate more than 1,000 carp have been removed from the Lake Winnetka area of the Sugar River this past summer.
