JANESVILLE - Blackhawk Technical College is offering a free online basic computer skills program in conjunction with the Wisconsin Technical College System that is being paid by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Dislocated workers, veterans and other people looking to improve information technology and computer skills are encouraged to investigate the nine-step online course by going to www.wisc-online.com and clicking on the "Computer Skills Course" link at the top of the page.
Students may complete any or all of the nine modules offered, depending on their individual needs. Subjects may be selected at a user's preference and range from a basic introduction to computer use to more detailed subjects such as managing personal data. The website includes a registration link and the anticipated amount of time needed to complete a module.
This course provides students and job seekers with the knowledge and skills practice required to become proficient in digital literacy.
Assistance is available through Blackhawk and the Rock County Job Center. For more information, contact Carissa Johnson, IT outreach specialist at BTC, at 608-757-6327 or cjohnson156@blackhawk.edu.
Funding of the $23.1 million program is made available through the Department of Labor's Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant. The program is an equal opportunity program. Assistive technologies are available upon request and include Voice/TTY (711 or 800-947-6644).
