Senior Center plans classes and events

MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 325-3173 or stop at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs, including free ones, so staff will know how many will be attending. All classes and activities are for people 55 and older.

Classes

●    A knitting class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays from April 29 through May 20 with Jocelyn Kline. This class will take you from the basics and beyond. There is a limit of eight people and there is a cost for this class.

●    An AARP driver safety course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 9. This class is a refresher course of road rules. Please bring your AARP card. There is a cost for this class and check to see if it is covered by your insurance.

Events

●    Breakfast for all Veterans and spouses ages 55 and over will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on May 1. We ask that you do not come before 8 a.m. We will be giving out 4 Quilts of Valor to Allen Broge, LaVern Isely, Duane Rackow and Ronald Strub. The next breakfast will be June 5.

●    Dental MythBusters will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. May 6 with Dr. Laura Hibbard. Learn how a healthy mouth affects your whole body. Enter to win an electric toothbrush and she’ll also have free goodies.

●    “The Golden Spike” 150th Anniversary will be at 1 p.m. May 7 with Paul Schoenike. Take a closer look at what went into completing the Transcontinental Railroad and how it had impacted our country.

●    The movie “Bright Lights” will be at 1:30 p.m. May 16. Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, it’s a tale of complicated family love.

●    George Washington and Fort Necessity, a program presented by Jim Glessner will start at 1:30 p.m. on May 22 and will feature its own special (Non-Alcoholic) drink. 

●    The Behring Senior Center and the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired will be hosting a full day of programs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 30. We will break for Panini lunch at 12:15 p.m., which you must sign up for. The movie “Pick of the Litter” will be at 1:30 p.m. and running time is 81 minutes.
