Bruce Baumgartner of Lena, Ill., was recently named third place winner in the ridge till non-irrigated division of the 2007 National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Yield Contest for Illinois. Baumgartner placed in this division with a yield of 244.5 bushels per acre with Garst brand 8573CB/LL/RW, a 106 general relative maturity (GRM) corn hybrid.

Baumgartner planted the corn on May 1, 2007, in 6 rows and 37,700 plants per acre. The field was previously planted to soybeans. Baumgartner harvested corn on Sept. 24, 2007.
