GCHS sale set for Sept. 29 to Oct. 1

MONROE - Purchase for Paws, a garage and bake sale benefiting Green County Humane Society, will be held Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

The garage sale dates and times are as follows:

- Thursday, Sept. 29: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Friday, Sept. 30: 8 to 5 p.m.

- Saturday, Oct. 1: 8 a.m. to noon

The bake sale will be held Thursday, Sept. 29.

Beginning Sept. 26, those donating items to the sale may drop items off at Monroe Auto Sales, 101 W. 8th St., Monroe. The dates and times for drop-off are as follows.

- Monday, Sept. 26: noon to 5 p.m.

- Tuesday, Sept. 27: noon to 5 p.m.

- Wednesday, Sept. 28: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bake sale items may be brought Sept. 28 or early morning on Sept. 29. Items not accepted are adult clothing or shoes (however, infant clothing is accepted), computers, printers, outdated microwaves or television sets, or ceiling fans. For questions, contact Geri Bartholf at (608) 325-9402.

Director workshop slated for Oct. 9

MONROE - The Monroe Theatre Guild (MTG) will offer a Director Workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9. During the meeting, several experienced directors will share their personal experiences on topics such as script selection, auditioning, rehearsal scheduling, blocking and character development.

New directors will also participate together in the audition process and select the cast, skits and musical acts that will appear in the Holiday Variety Show, which will be held Dec. 9, 10, 16 and 17. Directors will then determine a rehearsal schedule and begin directing their own skits.

The Holiday Variety Show, featuring performances from local talent as well as skits taken from the classic "Carol Burnett Show," will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 9, 10, 16 and 17, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 and 18. All performances are at MTG.

Gift to support hospital, program

DARLINGTON - The Darlington Community Fund recently made a donation in support of Families First New Beginnings of Memorial Hospital and its "Educating Expectant and New Mothers" program.

Because of the fund's donation, Families First was able to purchase copies of the books "What to Expect When You're Expecting," "What to Expect in the 1st Year" and "What to Expect the Toddler Years." The books are reference materials provided to all first-time mothers who deliver at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.
