Argyle

Argyle knitting group asking for crocheted flower donations

ARGYLE - Fiber artists of all ages and talents are invited to contribute 3- to 6-inch wide knit or crocheted flowers as part of Argyle Community Knit's third annual community art installment project, to be installed Valentine's Day 2018 in the Argyle Community Building flower beds. This is co-sponsored by the Argyle Public Library and the Argylian Society of Knitters.

All colors, designs and fibers are allowed. Fiber books with various floral stitches and free yarn skeins are available at the library.

Previous community knit projects included a 30-inch scarf on the "Turtle," a play structure at the Argyle school playground in 2016 and over 400 knitted and crocheted pendants hung around the Argyle American Legion ball field in 2017. These art installations are created in the whimsical spirit of "yarn-bombing," a type of street art where fiber arts are incorporated into public spaces.

Submissions may be left at the Argyle Public Library or the Argyle Fiber Mill by Feb. 1. Flowers will be subjected to the weather and are considered donated to the project.

For more information, contact argylelibrary@swls.org or kathy@argylefibermill.com.
