Monroe

Youth free throw competition is Sat.

MONROE - The local Knights of Columbus Council 1471 is sponsoring a Youth Free Throw Championship, with registration opening at 10:30 a.m. and the competition starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Monroe High School Gymnasium, 1600 26th St.

All boys and girls, ages 10 to 14, are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. All boys and girls will compete in their respective age and gender divisions.

Since its beginning in 1972, more than 2.5 million youths have participated in the contest.

All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. For entry forms or additional information, call Gregory Smith at (608) 325-2664.

Juda

Area youth invited to UMC youth night

JUDA - The youth members of the Juda Zion and Oakley Union United Methodist Churches will be a hosting a youth night from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Zion United Methodist Church, N2350 Church St.

The event is open to all area youth from seventh grade to seniors in high school and costs $5 for non-group members.

The event will include games, snacks, pizza and a movie, along with a return visit by the high school Christian bands from the Platteville United Methodist Church, Holy Rollers and Redeemer.

There will be a speaker from the Green County Suicide Prevention office in Monroe, along with a few individuals who will also speak on suicide.

Parents who wish to be present for the speakers can plan on being at the church from 7 to 8 p.m. The evening will conclude with a movie at the church.

South Wayne

Community blood drive is on Jan. 17

SOUTH WAYNE - A Red Cross community blood drive will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Black Hawk High School, 202 E. Center St.

Donors must be 16 years old with parental consent. Other donors should present with their donor card or a means of personal identification.

Appointments are not necessary, but will make donor time shorter. To make an appointment, call (800) 733-2767.
