WHITEWATER - The following students will present at Spring Undergraduate Research Day from noon to 3 p.m. today at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The event is open to the public and will be in the James R. Connor University Center's Hamilton Room and second floor.
New Glarus: Emily Roska, a junior music major, will present "Saxophone Quartet Plus: An Exploration of Music for Saxophone Quartet plus Other Instruments."
Monroe: Makenzie Smith, a senior theater major, will present "Preparation, Practice and Performance of Audition Material"; Erica Hegi, a senior music major, will present "The Relationships Between Parental Involvement, Music Aptitude and Achievements of Preschool Children"; Wytney Schilt, a senior biology major, will present "The Challenge Effect in Betta Splendens"; and Ashley Segner, a senior psychology major, will present "The Effect of Gender, Attractiveness, and Career Type on Perceived Likelihood of Being Hired."
Belleville: Haley Baltes, a senior Spanish major, will present "Using Kurzweil 3000 and to Rewordify to Support International Students in an Academic ESL Writing Class."
UW-Whitewater is nationally known for its emphasis on undergraduate research. This event is a prelude for students who are preparing for off-campus presentations later this spring.
Catherine Chan, director of the Undergraduate Research Program, will be taking about 40 students to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research April 7-9 at the University of North Carolina in Asheville. Six UW-Whitewater students will present their research at the UW System's Posters in the Rotunda event, where they will meet with state legislators and staff.
