MONTICELLO — The Monticello Area Historical Society is recreating the end of World War I a century ago from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day, at the Monticello Area Historical Society Museum, 204 N. Main St. in downtown Monticello.

According to the 1918 local paper, chimes rang at the church, the fire bell rang and steam whistles were blown. Listen for all three with the steam whistle provided by Jim Faith. Located inside of the museum will be photographs of local soldiers taken 100 years ago. Also included in the display are newspaper clippings of letters written home from the front.

Doughnuts donated by Gempler’s Supermarket and coffee will be served just like the Salvation Army did at the front for the soldiers.
