Apple River State Bank awards scholarships to area students; $200 to graduating seniors

GALENA — Apple River State Bank and First Community Bank of Galena recently awarded $1,000 college scholarships to six area high school graduates. 

Local students include:

●  Warren High School: Wyatt Janecke is the son of Brett and Sara Janecke. Wyatt will attend Iowa State University and major in optometry.

●  Darlington High School: Jessica De la Fuente will attend Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore and major in accounting.

In addition to these six scholarships, the bank’s Trust Department has awarded two $1,000 scholarships from the Earl, Vera, and Hal Heller Educational Trust. The recipients are 

●  Nick Handfelt, son of Jenny and Chuck Handfelt, will attend Southwest Wisconsin Technical College for welding; and 

●  Tyler Temperly, son of Jessica and Brett Temperly, will attend Southwest Wisconsin Technical College to become an electro-mechanical technician.


Bank commits $200 to each area high school graduate

In addition to the $1,000 scholarships, Apple River State Bank is pleased to announce a $200 Community Commitment Award for each of the 232 graduating seniors at Galena, River Ridge, Scales Mound, Warren, Southwestern, and Darlington High Schools.  

 Apple River State Bank started the Community Commitment Award program with the Class of 2021. 

“We applaud the 232 young women and men of the Class of 2024 for their commitment to completing their high school education,” said Joel Holland, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer. “In recognition of their commitment, Apple River State Bank will again provide the $200 Community Commitment Award to each graduating senior.”

Seniors from these six high schools received a certificate that they can take to their local Apple River State Bank office.  A deposit of $100 will be put into a new or existing Apple River State Bank checking or savings account. Between Dec. 13, 2024, and Jan. 31, 2025, an additional $100 will be deposited to the account at their request.

“We are prepared to be the bank for these young adults, wherever their future takes them. Congratulations and best wishes for the future from your friends at Apple River State Bank,” Holland said.
