The Avalanche Squirt A team traveled to Waunakee to take on the Wildcat B team on Sunday, Dec. 8. The Avalanche knocked off the Wildcats 8-0 in a fast-paced game. The Avalanche outshot the Wildcats 24-3. Runkle earned his second shutout of the season. Roth and Tessa Janecke each scored four goals. Earning assists with aggressive passes were Anna Malone (two), Buholzer (two), Lilah Bauer (two), Roth, Alyssa Knauf, Tessa Janecke and Blaze Janecke.
U10 Girls Team
On Sunday, Dec. 8, the Avalanche Girls U10 team lost a nail-biter 6-5 to the Junior Fury U12 B team in an early morning matchup.
Lilah Bauer scored a goal on an assist by Marlies Brandli one minute into the first period. The Junior Fury answered just seconds later to bring the score to 1-1. Anna Malone added two with an assist from Brandli to end the first period 3-1.
The Junior Fury came back strong in the second period scoring four goals to the Avalanche's one from Brooke Teubert on an assist by Bauer. Fast action and aggressive play dominated the third period on both sides of the ice. Bauer lit the lamp again in the final period but was matched with another goal from the Junior Fury.
Goalie Sarah Nicholas marked 42 saves in the game.
Avalanche Pee Wee B
This past weekend the Avalanche Pee Wee B team took to the ice on Saturday, Dec. 7 against the Stoughton Vikings B team where for just the second time this season the Avalanche not only out-shot their opponent but did so at a rate of almost two-to-one, 29-15.
Monroe goaltender Heath Bear recorded his first shutout of the game with the help of his defensemen Alex Henry, Bryce Montgomery, Brady Smith, Kaiden Klitzke and Kendall Wild who all helped to hold that line. Unfortunately, Bear was not able to record a win as the goaltender. The Vikings had a stellar performance stopping every shot the Avalanche put at them, leaving the final score a tie 0-0. Bear recorded 15 saves.
Avalanche Ryan Molitor was injured late in the first period after crashing into the boards. He was not able to return to the game.
On Sunday, Dec. 8, the Pee Wee B team traveled to Dodgeville to take on the Polar Caps A team with hopes of coming home with a win after losing to the Polar Caps in the final seconds in a game earlier this season.
With the Avalanche being down two players, the Polar Caps skated to a 4-1 win. Avalanche coach Josh Smith had to be creative with his line changes to try and keep his players as fresh as possible. The first period seemed to be the Avalanche's best period as they were able to get on the board first with an unassisted goal by Riley Jones seven minutes into the first period. Unfortunately, that is all the scoring the Avalanche would see. With a very short bench, the Avalanche ran out of steam against a solid Polar Caps team that was able to keep fresh legs on the ice the entire game and was able to score four unanswered goals during the rest of the game.
Bear recorded 34 saves. The Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee B team will play two games on the road this weekend. They will take on the Patriots of Madison at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Hartmeyer Ice Arena and will play at Stoughton at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15. Wednesday, December 11, 2013
