Monroe Wrestlers Gearing Up for La Crosse
Monroe senior Sam Kind at 170 pounds defeated Oregon's Devin Keast 4-2 Friday. The Cheesemakers won every match wrestled and rolled to a 66-12 dual match win over the Panthers. Kind is ranked No. 6 in the Division 2 Wisconsin Wrestling Online poll. Monroe has three wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Patrick Rielly is ranked No. 9 at 160 and senior Dempzy Foley is ranked 12th at 182. Sophomore Bodie Minder is honorable mention in the rankings at 220. The Cheesemakers will wrestle in the Bi-State Classic Friday and Saturday at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse. (Photo for the Times: Duke Goetz)

Brodhead-Juda’s Jackson Hauri defeated Ellsworth’s Cedric Kosnopfal 5-3 in the semifinal match of the 152-pound weight class. The win means Hauri, a junior, will face Evansville-Albany’s Nolan Kicmol for the state championship. The two area wrestlers faced off twice this season, with each wrestler winning once. The gold medal match in the 152-pound class at the WIAA Division 2 state tournament tonight will pit two Rock Valley Conference wrestlers against each other in a rubber match at the Kohl Center - Brodhead-Juda junior Jackson Hauri and Evansville-Albany senior Nolan Kicmol.

Rough first day for local wrestlers
The season came to an end for Monroe seniors Dempzy Foley and Tyson Welsch at the WIAA Division 2 state tournament Thursday night at the Kohl Center.

Only two of the seven area wrestlers that wrestled in preliminary matches at the Kohl Center Thursday won.
