Gavin Breadon Memorial Meet
Aubrie Voegeli, 10, swims the 50-meter butterfly in the 14th annual Gavin Breadon Memorial swim meet Saturday at Recreation Park. Gavin Breadon was a 1991 Monroe High School graduate and a 1996 graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa. He was studying at the medical school at University College in Dublin, Ireland, when he died suddenly at the start of his senior year in October 2002. The Breadon family awarded $2,000 in scholarships at the start of the meet Saturday. Each scholarship recipient received $250. The scholarship winners were Skylar Lassen, Cole Murray, Jacob Kind, Carter Sawdey, Kylie Houston, Dylan Beaver, Alex Tordoff and Isaac Allen. (Times photo: Mark Nesbitt)

Juda-Albany wins state title
When Juda-Albany junior pitcher Nicki Becker got Stevens Point Pacelli's Cailin Firkus to ground out to third in the bottom of the seventh inning at Goodman Diamond on Saturday, she tossed her glove in the air and the celebration began: The Panthers had just edged Pacelli 2-1 in the WIAA Division 4 state championship game for their first state title in softball.
