Public library to host stories and crafts program
MONROE -The Monroe Public Library Youth Services Department will host a Cheesy Stories and Crafts program at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at the library, 925 16th Ave.
The event, which will be run by Youth Services Coordinator Kris Ault, will feature silly and fun stories, jokes, rhymes, songs and crafts for preschool hands.
Crafts this year will include a big cheese picture frame, cheesy kazoo, cheesy mouse bookmark, and the wedge 'o cheese hat.

Figi to present on one-room schools at society meeting
MONTICELLO -The Monticello Area Historical Society will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 East Lake Ave.
The guest speaker will be Matt Figi. He will provide a PowerPoint presentation on the history of one-room rural schools in the county, which at one time numbered 120. A film of students at some of the rural schools during the 1940-41 school year will follow the slide show.
Figi will also display some results of his research into the schools since his return to Monroe eight years ago.
