Soup and sandwich supper, 4 to 8 p.m., McConnell Methodist Church Hall, 211 N. Hulbert Road, McConnell, Ill. Menu: all-you-can-eat chili, vegetable beef soup, cheese sandwiches, celery/carrot sticks, desserts and beverages. Tickets : $6.50 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 5 through 12 and those under 5 eat free. Proceeds benefit the McConnell Area Historical Society and Museum.

Veterans Day banquet, hosted by Cecil Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2312, Monroe American Legion Post, 1627 12th Ave. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. Guest speaker: VFW State Commander Dewitt "Woody" Woodworth of Sparta. All veterans are invited to attend. Reservation: sign up at the American Legion or call (608) 325-4244.
