Walter Treuthardt

Walt Treuthardt passed away at his home on June 15, 2014 at the age of 82 years from prostate cancer. He was born July 16, 1931 in Monroe, WI to David A. and Lydia Liebundgut Treuthardt. Walt spent most of his childhood growing up in the Brodhead area. He served in the US Army during Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.

On July 21, 1957 Walt married the former Judith C. Disch in New Glarus, WI.

Walt was a self-educated man and worked several skilled jobs during his lifetime. He started driving truck for Frank Kubly in the late 1950s. During the 1960s, he owned and operated his own excavation company, hauled milk for Dobson out of Orfordville during the winter months, managed local trucks for IGA out of Chicago, did road construction for McGuire and then went back to cheese hauling for Armour. In 1973 he bought his first Peterbilt and leased on to Diamond Transportation, Racine. There he hauled flatbed freight of all types for the next 25 years. Walt then went on the Case International Tour traveling throughout the United States and Canada with show tractors and farm machinery. After his official retirement from over-the-road trucking, he hauled logs for Olson Logging Monroe, WI

In 1989 he was awarded the Safe Driving Award by the American Trucking Association for 1 Million Perfect Miles driven. This was just a tiny part of the millions of miles logged over his entire career.

Walt was a very adept card player and spent enjoyable hours in casinos honing his skills. He also liked to "tinker" in his garages and sheds, and was very skilled at working on mechanical items, such as motors and the like. He was also an avid nature watcher and loved the birds and animals he shared his yard with. Walt was a family man and his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brothers and sister and their families were his main joy in life. He had many friends of all ages and was greatly respected and liked by all whose lives he touched.

Walt is survived by his children: Terri Jayne (Richard) Reynolds, Mark Treuthardt, Sandra Treuthardt and Walter David (Denise) Treuthardt all of Monroe. His grandchildren Amanda Meighan , Ryan Treuthardt and Jessica Treuthardt; great-grandchildren Jacob and MacKenzie Bergemann. Step-granddaughter Candi (Michael McCauley) Bechtolt and children Devin and Kayla; sister, Mary (William) Mitchell, brothers John (Rose), Carl (Margie), Fritz, and Henry (Chris) Treuthardt; several nieces and nephews, cousins in Switzerland, and his forever companion dog, Blackie.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his grandson James (Jim) Bergemann, his brothers Louis, David M., Emil, Robert and Frank Treuthardt.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 11 am at the Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home 360 S Garfield Street in Monticello. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, June, 18, 2014 .

Burial with military rites will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello, WI. Memorials will be donated to the Monroe Clinic Hospice and the Prostrate Cancer Foundation.
