Diane Lee (Berg) Heindel, age 71, of Monroe, Wi, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Monroe Hospital Hospice Home in Monroe. She was born on August 13, 1946, at the Monroe Hospital to L. Freeman and Edna (Lisser) Berg. She grew up on a family farm near Woodford, Wi. and was a proud member of the class of 1964 graduating from South Wayne High School.
Diane married Larry Heindel on November 27, 1965 at Jordan Lutheran Church, Browntown, Wi. They lived in Warren, Illinois for several years before moving to Monroe in the late 1960's. Diane was employed for 53 years at Reffue, Pas, Jacobson, Knox & Koster, LLP, Certified Public Accountants.
She belonged to Grace Lutheran Church and was a dedicated member of Green County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) for 39 years. She also worked for Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Women of the Moose.
Over the years Diane enjoyed sewing, embroidery, ceramics, reading, baking, cooking, country music, and especially spending time with her dear friends. She also enjoyed going to the Curves Exercise Center and working out with her friends, "the Curves Girls." Diane and Larry traveled to many parts of the United States and to a number of different countries including, Switzerland, England, Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Germany, Lichtenstein and the Czech Republic for Tug of War events. Diane's favorite destinations were Switzerland and Prague in the Czech Republic. She was a Colts, Cubs, and Badgers fan. Diane's sweet smile, her sense of humor and her quiet, gentle, giving, loving nature will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Diane is survived by her husband, Larry, her daughter Lisa, her son Kerry, her mother, Edna (Lisser) Berg, her sister Ruth (Lee) Rupnow, her brother-in-law Harold Heindel, her niece Amy (Robert) Thole, her nephew Bradley (Coleen) Rupnow, her grandnephew Nolan Thole, her grandnieces Monique and Rhya Thole and Abigail and Alexa Rupnow, her special cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister Donna at birth, her father L. Freeman Berg, her father-in-law Edward Heindel, and her mother-in-law Vera (Wernicke) Heindel.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Green County Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Monroe Clinic and Hospital, University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital, Edgerton Hospital, Pleasant View Nursing Home and Monroe Hospital Hospice Home for all their compassion and the kind, loving care they provided for Diane during her illness. Thank you also to family, friends, Pastor Tabaka and Pastor Thickpenny for their many visits and loving support.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe.
Visitation will be at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe on Thursday, July 12th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and before the service at Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
