Dorothy (Dorie) Durtschi Lund of New Glarus, Wisconsin.
In the early morning hours of June 21, 2014 Dorie passed away at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, Wisconsin. She was 86 years old.
Born on August 8, 1927 as the daughter of Elizabeth & Casper Durtschi, Dorothy was one of ten children. She is survived by her sisters Frieda Siedschlag and Ida Swanton. Dorothy married David Lund in 1974 and they were married for 18 years before David passed away in 1992. Her parents, husband, and son Timothy Lund preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki & René; Graenicher of Argyle, Wisconsin, daughter and son-in-law, Christine & Eric Nordmark of Grayslake, IL, son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Connie Lund of St Robert, MO, and daughter-in-law Rose Marie Lund of Mount Prospect, IL, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy had many siblings and a strong love for each of them and their families. She enjoyed the Durtschi family reunions each year and keeping up with her large, extended family. Dorothy had a keen interest in genealogy. She found great pleasure in contacting relatives to research and document her family history.
Dorothy lived in New Glarus, Wisconsin, where she loved the feel of "Little Switzerland." She was full of energy, outgoing within her community and a member at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. She served on the consistory for several years and participated in the annual cookie sale. Dorothy was a member of a bowling league for many years and enjoyed swinging a golf club with a women's golf league.
Dorothy had a passion for the outdoors and kept beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. She relished sharing her knowledge of gardening and canning with her family and friends while comparing notes on who harvested the first tomato each year. When she wasn't in the garden you may have found her quilting. Dorothy was a creative, patient and very talented quilter. She was a loyal Green Bay Packer fan, an unstoppable Euchre player and loved to be in the kitchen cooking. Dorothy found a hobby in collecting and sharing recipes with family and friends.
Dorothy Lund was a proud, caring, and strong woman. She cherished her time with family and friends; always being the life of the party. She had a a great love for animals, especially dogs. In her final years Dorothy shared constant companionship with her rescue yorkie, Lyndy.
Per Dorothy's request, there will be a private family gathering honoring and celebrating her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Green County Humane Society, N3156 Wisconsin 81, Monroe, WI 53566.
