Hattie F. Lovelace age 102, of Monroe, formerly of Woodford, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Monroe Manor. Hattie was born October 2, 1911 in Jordan Township, Green County, the second of eight children to Reinhold and Rose (Boelk) Gutzmer. She attended Mills Rural School and married Homer C. Lovelace on May 20, 1935 in Springfield, IL. Hattie and Homer operated Lovelace Hardware of Woodford from 1940 until retiring and moving to Darlington in 1958. The couple moved to their home on Lake Wisconsin in 1980. Following Homer's death on March 13, 1993, Hattie moved to Monroe to be closer to her family. She was a former member of the Woodford United Methodist Church and a 75-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America. In her younger years Hattie enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, and attending garage sales. She has resided at the Monroe Manor since 2004.
She is survived by her son, Robert Lovelace and his wife Joan (Pickett) Taft of Woodford; her daughter, Nancy Elmer and her husband Curtis Elmer of Monroe; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Susan Elmer; daughter-in-law, Virginia Lovelace; three sisters, Frieda Gruenberg, Dorothy Johnson, and Rosie Krebs; and four brothers, Alfred, Leo, Frank, and William Gutzmer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Reverend Randy Booth officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
