Luise Stein, age 79, of Argyle, WI, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, WI. She was born June 3, 1934 in Charleville, Yugoslavia, the daughter of Nik and Katie (Pfendt) Kowatschitsch. Luise was united in marriage to Karl Stein on December 12, 1953. Luise and Karl were born in neighboring villages in Yugoslavia before immigrating to Chicago. However, they did not meet until attending an English speaking class at a night school in Chicago. Luise's family heard of Karl and invited him over for lunch and Karl ended up staying for the rest of her life. In 1965, they moved from Brodhead, WI, to Argyle, where they farmed in Adams Township in Green County until 1980, when they moved into Argyle.
Luise is survived by her husband: Karl at home; two daughters: Anita Stein of Argyle and Christine (Tim) Stein-Thesing of Monroe, WI; four grandchildren: Lisa (Bryan) Kumfer, Raymond (Jennifer) Moore, Craig (Andrea) Nolen, and Mack (April Wenger) Stein; six great-grandchildren; and one brother: Henry (Lynn) Kowats of Park Ridge, IL. She was preceded in death by her mother: Katie on May 25, 1991; her father: Nik on April 26, 1997; and one son-in-law: Harry Mack Baker on January 29, 1991. Luise loved navigating the countryside with Karl in the car. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and baking.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Monroe Bible Church, 2613 8th Avenue in Monroe with Rev. Jeff Cole of Believer's Fellowship in Monroe officiating. Burial will held in Calvary Cemetery in rural Argyle. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
