'The Hero Project'
'The Hero Project'
Monroe Middle School counselor Robin Marsden and sixth-grade students Isabella Brunton and Ethan Towne started "The Hero Project" to spread kindness throughout the school while also raising money for Green County Food Pantry and Family Promise. Both students have had experiences with bullying and want to prevent it. "It's not fun," Brunton said. "We should be evolved enough to know not to hurt others." The two discussed ways to stop bullying and thought the bracelets would be a fun way to do it. "We can't just sit around and wait for change to happen," Towne said. Marsden and the students are asking others to pledge to "be a hero" by buying a wristband and then helping to spread positivity. The wristbands are available for $1 in the main office at MMS. Marsden, who's resigning at the end of this school year to stay home with her newborn son, said in an email she was also taking orders from other schools in the district. All funds raised will be donated to the food pantry and Family Promise. According to the pledge, "People seeing you wear this bracelet will know that you do not support bullying and are someone that stands up for others. It is also a reminder to yourself to be kind." The pledge ends with a quote attributed to Towne: "You don't need to be Superman to be a hero." To order this photo, click here. (Times photo: Marissa Weiher)
